DIY Laptop Stand

A DIY ergonomic laptop stand that raises your screen to eye level, in a very inexpensive cheap manner. With a coat hanger, bent...

This just seems like a guy who wants you to try this and watch your laptop fall and break... but that's just me.

Hammer Portable hard drives

Hammar Storage company has a great idea of unlimited colours and designs, so that it will become a must-have computer accessory. All I am wondering is how they can say that they have a 750GB External laptop hard drive coming soon, when I have not even heard of that being done yet. But, I guess I shouldn't be surprised; I mean Seagate just released the 1.5TB 3.5HDD.

Samsung to the Rescue!

My dream has come true, Samsung has decided to come down to North America and sell it's X360 and X460 laptop here. The laptop is a little pricey for it's debut; at $1,899 and $2,499, i don't think it's going to be doing great during this recession. The laptops do come with 10.2 inch screen, in at 2.8 pounds, 160 GB HDD (X460) and a 128GB SSD (X360) for a larger price making the laptop $2,499.

Kingston and Intel team up to rape the SSD market

Kingston is teaming up with Intel to take down the SSD market, and put in some flash hard drives for laptops and servers. Look out Samsung, you better get Sandisk now or you'll be all left out at the SSD party =(

Lenovo Creates a Laptop that eats other Laptops...well not really

Introducing the Lenovo ThinkPad w700, a 17 inch laptop with an enourmous amount of specs:
  • LCD: WUXGA (1920 x 1200) 400 nit, auto color calibration sensor that lets you adjust display settings with dual DVI and VGA port.
  • Hard Drive: Supports dual hard drive bays in RAID 0 or 1 at 320GB
  • An LED light above the screen, pointing down to light the keyboard
  • GPU: Nvidia Quadro FX 3700 with 1GB dedicated memory
  • Touchpad with ThinkPad's famous Trackpoint red nubbin
  • CPU: 3.0GHz Core 2 Extreme Quad Core
  • Wacom Tablet: 120 x 80cm built in

My only critique of this monster is that it doesn't have an HDMI port and if the Bluetooth was 2.0 or 2.1 or EDR?, other than that, this laptop is incredible; It is a gaming, graphic, entertainment, and photographer laptop.

Intel Atom and Nano Platform Comparo duke it out

A review down by Tweak Town shows the benchmarks for the new Intel Atom and the Via Nano. You can have your own take on it but for the most part the Nano platform beats the Atom on low voltage, CPU usage for playback on video and can even run Crysis 6.95 frames better (or on average 15.26 fps) at 1024 x 768. So the battle for the UMPC processor goes on for these two, and we'll see who comes out on top when it comes to companies adapting their technology by next year.

On a side note, I was wondering what happened to AMD in this mobile PC business?

Samsung's 500GB 2.5" harddrive! and 250gb....

Laptops are getting the first 500Gb (5400rpm...boo but still) harddrive! It's going to come at the hefty price of $299 MSRP. I still want it anyway, but here's the other 250GB harddrive which runs at the amazing speed of 7200rpm and has the awesome price of $199MSRP (sort of).

Check out more at the Samsung Site.

HP/Voodoo kick some ass

Hp and Voodoo have done another team up to bring you the Envy laptop.

Here check some of the specs:
  • 3.4 lbs, 0.70 inches thin, 9.04 inches deep, 12.65 inches wide
  • Carbon Fibre case
  • Backlit LED screen WXGA (1, 280 x 800) in high quality fused composite glass that runs from one edge to the other
  • Standard Webcam
  • 802.11 A, B, G, N and bluetooth
There's a whole whack of crazy stuff in this baby like a LAN plug on the power brick which WiFi connects back to the laptop (very interesting), the mouse turns off when it senses you not touching it (it knows when it's not needed...aw), also it has an intake for air in the front and an outtake on both sides.

Very interesting stuff, for the price start of around $2, 099

A guy that might give X300 and the Macbook Air a run for their money, but i'm kind of curious where the optical drive is...unless i'm blind...which I was known for when I played basketball...

Asus melts my pants

Asus is working on a new user interface using a touch screen for the bottom half of the laptop where the keyboard would be. There's a bunch of really cool ideas here and I think it would work out great.

Go Asus! keep doing stuff!

Samsung Laptop Department having problems

Samsung has posted their market share and they aren't doing too hot. With only a 1.2 percent growth in 2005 to 1.7 percent in 2007, it doesn't sound as good as the rest of the laptop company growths such as HP's 23 percent. Samsung has had service complaints and issues with their hardware in the areas that they do sell laptops, which is not North America but that could change. They might have to start selling in North America to save their butts, it's a huge market that could boost them up and become a competitive fighter in the laptop biz. If they don't improve by 2011 they will have to exit the laptop market. But I bet (non-techy) people even knew that Samsung made laptops, which I have been looking at and which I wouldn't mind owning. Their line up is classic Samsung strategy (which some people may not like), very nice style (usually black), great price point, but may or may not be reliable, and debatable service. So basically an Asian version of Apple (or more specifically Korean version). Well I would still love to see what they would come up with over here, bring it on Samsung!

ASUS G70 Beast

This new 10.6 plbs craziness is one of ASUS' new line up gaming laptops. Dual 8700M GT in SLI configuration with 1024MB GDD3 dedicated physical memory, as well as Dual SATA HDD with a combined memory of 640GB and Dual core processors (of course) with your choice of 2 Duo or 2 Extreme.

A WUXGA (1920 by 1200) Display with an LED back light for all your colour correct freaks/artists (why am I making fun of myself...) with 8ms.

As well as the usual Gigabit network adapter, N Draft WiFi, with optional Blu-Ray, and 2 Mega-Pixel Camera.

This G70 has an 8-cell battery pack, which will probably have extended life with the new LED back light, and 45nm architecture. Yet the dual HDD and GPU might counter act that so we'll just have to see if the battery can cut it, that's unless they are using a new Lithium-Polymer technology that is extended.

Can't wait for the ASUS G70
